Alidestroy is the creative alias of Ali Hamzah JN, an artist, art director, illustrator, and graphic designer based in Indonesia. Born in Bandung in 1987, he graduated in Visual Communication Design from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and has been working in the creative field ever since.
At the core of his practice is a signature visual language: tremulous lines — marks that carry the weight of instability, spontaneity, and raw human movement. These lines are not accidental; they are intentional. They emerge from a deep exploration of natural expression, the unpredictability of the body, and the uncontrollable vibrations that define lived experience.
His work draws from a personal and deliberate set of influences — his own trembled hands, the fluid bravura of John Singer Sargent, the raw street energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat, notions of hypermasculinity, and the refined tension found in Japanese traditional arts. Together, these forces shape a body of work that is both visceral and controlled, chaotic and composed.
Across illustration, art direction, and design, Alidestroy’s work continues to explore what it means to express the unpredictable nature of life through the most fundamental tool of an artist — the line.
